As I have heard it many times over the years, a lot of patients/clients, as they are being escorted to the hygiene operatory, will make the statement “I’m just here for a cleaning” but it’s so much more than that!
Being an expanded duty level II CDA, I collaborated alongside the RDH for the coronal polishing and treatment education part of the appointment. Together as a team we were able to establish a well rounded Perio program where education and transfer of knowledge was our key to success.
The understanding of “it’s just a cleaning” changed to “the health of the body starts in the mouth.”
